Hello and welcome to the newest version of Mike’s TV and FM DX Page, now just known as Mikesdx.com.

This site has been around in some form since 1999, that’s 26 years for those of you without calculators, but online with its current address for around five years. It has been around before HD Radio and cellphones and I’ve been DXing the FM band before LPFMs and translators destroyed large parts of it, before there were websites, computers and internet. Yes, this site has been around but it’s still kickin’. With luck this should be the last time I want to upgrade it. What you see will be what you get. That’s all folks.

,Let me explain the two maps above. The map on the left shows the places that I’ve heard E skip from. Any location in the US not shaded dark is just too far for single hop skip, which is why I haven’t heard anything from New Mexico or Colorado, for instance. As far as countries heard, you can add Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Bermuda is not shown but has been heard.

In 2025 I had multiple Es events to Florida, which is common here. I’ve had double hop to Mexico a few times but with the FM band so choked with HD and the other garbage, I probably won’t see any from Mexico again. Hope I’m wrong.

Now we move on to the map on the right, which shows you the places where I’ve heard tropo from. My farthest south is from Port Royal, SC and audio of that reception can be found in DX Audio. As a matter of fact, the audio from many of these can be found there. If you look at the map carefully, you will see Little Rock there. Yes, I did have inland tropo to Arkansas. This was back on September 21, 1978 when a huge high pressure area formed over the central U.S. This is a record reception of two stations, KLAZ 98.5 and KKYK 103.7. You can listen to the audio!

In all my years of FM DXing from this location, I’ve only experienced long haul tropo to the midwest once. That was the morning I found it around 7am before work and it blew my mind. I heard Chicago and a few stations from Wisconsin, and I came darn close to Minnesota but no cigar. I would consider that day the trop of a lifetime, not to be repeated.
